Introduction

Stories are an account, especially a spoken one, of something that has happened or sometimes a description of people and events that are not real. Everyone has listened to some fairytales or Quileute legends or urban legends at least once in their lifetime. Even in the past times, these are the only sources of entertainment for children. Since grandparents used to narrate some self-made fairytales to their grandchildren. But here I would like to share one of my favorite interesting stories I ever heard.

What the story was about and Who told you this story

As I vividly remember it was 3 years ago when we had been on a trip to Triund and Dharamshala. We planned prior to the trip that we would go trekking on Triund mountain. Since the trekking route to the peak of the mountain was passing through the dense dark forest so it was a terrifying experience for me. Apart from this our trek guide started to tell the local urban legend of Yeti ( he Yeti, in Himalayan folklore, is an ape-like creature purported to inhabit the Himalayan mountain range in Asia. In western popular culture, the creature is commonly referred to as the Abominable Snowman.

Why you remember it

Since the way our guide narrated the story was so interesting and spooky I still remember that story and experience. If I talk about the story, actually it was a real incident which encountered with our guide. He told us that once on a typical day he was enjoying the bone fire at the apex of the mountain with his trekking members. Suddenly they all heard a creepy sound cum wolf howl. All the members were getting scared. They throw their flashlights and out of sudden a massive creature jumped in front of them out of nowhere. All the members showed their courage and started fighting with the monster. everyone picked up the burning logs and fought with that creature and compelled that monster to run away. Our guide also shared some other same encounters of local people who saw this yeti in the same area where we were doing our trekking. Whatever it was, or god knows whether our guide was speaking the truth or it was just a made-up story for spicing up our trek. However it creeped me out and after reaching at the pinnacle of the mountains, I know how I passed that night like I was having nightmares of yeti.

How you feel about it

This is the only story that never escaped from my mind. don’t know why, what the place, the person, the story everything got the best blend that despite being scared I enjoyed my whole trek having that story in my mind. Overall it was my first interesting scary story.

Q1 :- Has storytelling changed over a period of time?

Of course, Nothing is permanent as everything got replaced with something new with time. As my granny used to tell me stories from her experience and all, and had no book in her hand. Now, children like to watch cartoons, movies, and all on youtube, television, and so on. moreover, people are living a jam-packed schedule so neither parents nor children have time to spend together.

Q2 :- What makes storytelling effective?

The way the stories are told can make any story effective. the use of gestures and hand movements also helps. Using the right pause at the right place and a deep voice with good pronunciation makes the stories effective. Furthermore, another thing is that read the interest of the audience what the audience wants to listen than pick the same genric to tell the story about.
